A Matrix View displays how selected Model Items relate to each other, showing Objects of a Type as rows and Objects of another Type as columns of a grid. The intersection cell displays relevant Relationship information existing between the two Objects. It is often used to visualize and/or edit Relationships between different Objects in a structured format.
Typical examples are Capability to Application matrix, Application to Technology matrix.
Create a Matrix View
- On the Public Views or My Views page, on the toolbar, select Create
, and then select Matrix.

On the Contents tab, to create the Matrix columns, select Add Columns:

- Under Based On, do one of the following:
- To create a Matrix based on available Object Types, select Object Type, and then in the Object Type list, select the Object Type you need.
- To create a Matrix based on the existing View, select View, and then in the View list, select the View you need.
- Select Add Columns.
The columns display Objects of the selected Object Type or View based on the MSC filter. - On the Contents tab, to create the Matrix rows, select Add Rows:
- In the Name field, enter the row title.
- Under Based On, do one of the following:
- To create a Matrix based on available Object Types, select Object Type, and then in the Object Type list, select the Object Type you need.
- To create a Matrix based on the existing View, select View, and then in the View list, select the View you need.
- Select Add Rows.
The rows display Objects of the selected Object Type or View.
The rows and columns form a Matrix. To configure filters, go to the Configure filters and filter sets.

Change Matrix display settings
You can change the display settings of your Matrix:
- To change how the row appears in the Matrix, on the toolbar, select Row Settings
, and specify a display, size, and text orientation of the row, and then select OK.
- To change how the column appears in the Matrix, on the toolbar, select Column Settings
, and specify a display, size, and text orientation of the column, and then select OK.
- To change how Relationships appear in the Matrix, on the toolbar, select Cell Settings
, and choose to show or hide the number of Relationships between Objects, and then select OK.
